At the airport, the delegation was welcomed by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein on behalf of Myanmar. Representing Vietnam were Ambassador Ly Quoc Tuan, Colonel Dao Van Duy, Defense Attaché, and the entire staff of the Vietnamese Embassy.

The Ministry of National Defense's rescue team includes 80 officers and soldiers led by Major General Pham Van Ty, Deputy Chief of the Standing Office of the National Committee for Disaster Response and Search and Rescue, and Deputy Director of the Department of Rescue and Relief.

The Ministry of Public Security sent a team of 26 officers and soldiers, headed by Colonel Nguyen Minh Khuong, Deputy Director of the Fire and Rescue Police Department.

Speaking with Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein at the airport, Major General Pham Van Ty extended Vietnam’s deepest condolences to Myanmar over the severe damage caused by the earthquake and expressed hope that the country would soon recover from the disaster.

The Chief Minister thanked the Vietnamese military for its swift deployment of support forces and emphasized that this gesture reflects the strong bond between the two nations and their peoples.

Immediately upon arrival, the Vietnamese military delegation traveled by car to the coordination point in Naypyidaw, more than 450 kilometers from Yangon, to coordinate search and rescue plans with local authorities.

To assist Myanmar in overcoming the earthquake’s aftermath, Vietnam has decided to provide emergency relief supplies, including a financial aid package of $300,000 at Myanmar's request.

This effort reflects the commitment of the Vietnamese Party, State, and people to support Myanmar - a fellow ASEAN member - in mitigating the impact of natural disasters. It exemplifies Vietnam’s long-standing spirit of compassion, international responsibility, and humanitarian values, while also affirming the capability and credibility of Vietnam’s rescue forces in global missions.

On March 28, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, along with the Vietnam–Myanmar Friendship Association, sent a message of sympathy to the people of Myanmar.

Today, the Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar also issued a call for donations to support affected communities.

Rescue teams continue to search for survivors following the strongest earthquake Myanmar has experienced in over a century. As of this afternoon, Myanmar authorities reported approximately 1,700 deaths, 3,400 injuries, and 300 people still missing, with the toll expected to rise.

Numerous international rescue teams have arrived in Myanmar to assist in the recovery. ASEAN foreign ministers held an emergency meeting today to discuss joint efforts in response to the earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand, agreeing to activate the bloc’s emergency response mechanism.
