National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man and his spouse are on an official visit to Singapore. On December 2, he held talks with his Singaporean counterpart, Speaker Seah Kian Peng, to discuss the bilateral relationship and avenues for future collaboration.

Seah Kian Peng highlighted the strong and dynamic relationship between Vietnam and Singapore, which has flourished over more than 50 years of diplomatic ties and 10 years of strategic partnership.

The bond between the two nations is marked by shared strategic vision, close ties among leaders, robust trade and investment links, and strong people-to-people connections.

NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man congratulated Singapore on its remarkable development achievements, expressing confidence that the country will continue to excel as a dynamic, inclusive, equitable, and resilient nation. He reaffirmed Vietnam’s view of Singapore as a key strategic partner in the region.

In their candid and constructive discussions, the two leaders exchanged views on major directions and measures to strengthen cooperation and elevate bilateral ties.

Man expressed gratitude to Singapore for its previous support in training Vietnamese officials and proposed continued assistance in nurturing strategic leadership talent, particularly for candidates being groomed for Vietnam’s 14th Party Central Committee.

Both leaders agreed that political and diplomatic cooperation remains the cornerstone of bilateral relations, providing overarching guidance for other areas of collaboration. Economic and trade ties were identified as vital pillars, with a focus on creating a favorable legal framework and closely monitoring the implementation of agreements. They emphasized expanding collaboration in emerging fields such as green economy, digital economy, clean energy, cybersecurity, and innovation.

Infrastructure development, transportation connectivity, tourism, and cultural exchanges were highlighted as areas for intensified cooperation.

Regarding security and defense, the leaders underscored the importance of dialogue mechanisms and cooperation in maritime, land, and air forces. They emphasized enhancing cybersecurity efforts, joint search and rescue operations, military medicine, maritime connectivity, and environmental protection using advanced technologies.

The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation between the two parliaments, ensuring the effective implementation of their bilateral agreement. They emphasized information exchange and sharing experiences in institutional reform, policymaking, and legal system improvement to foster economic stability and enhance international integration.

They also called for deeper engagement among parliamentary committees, agencies, and members, including young and female legislators. NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man urged Singapore’s Parliament to support favorable policies for Vietnamese businesses, investors, and residents living and working in Singapore.

On regional and global issues, the two leaders agreed to enhance cooperation and mutual support on multilateral platforms, including international and regional inter-parliamentary forums.

Both sides shared common views on maintaining peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region. They underscored the importance of ensuring maritime and aviation security and safety in the East Sea and resolving disputes peacefully based on international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
