Vietnamese chess players on August 3 scored second round wins over Monaco and Canada, at the 2014 Chess Olympiad ongoing in the Norwegian city of Tromso.

The male team beat Monaco 4-0. GM Le Quang Liem (Elo 2710) triumphed over GM Igor Efimov (Elo 2408) after 49 moves.

Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son (Elo 2634) also gained victory over Pierre Villegas (Elo 2323) in just 41 moves. In another two matches, Nguyen Duc Hoa (Elo 2501) and Nguyen Van Huy (Elo 2439) easily defeated their two rivals from Monaco.

The Vietnam male team is currently in sixth spot in the rankings. The team led by Le Quang Liem has eight points and is tied with France, Cuba, Greorgia, the Netherlands, Serbia and Italy.

The Vietnam female team also shutout their Canadian competition.GM Pham Le Thao Nguyen (Elo 2331) emerged victorious in a match with Starr Nava (Elo 2145) 1-0 after 71 moves.

The remaining three victories of the Vietnamese female team belonged to Luu Phuong Hanh Hoang Thi Nhu Y and Hoang Thi Bao Tram.
