
A growing number of major universities in Vietnam, including Hanoi University of Science and Technology, National Economics University, Banking Academy, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, and Can Tho University, are opening branch campuses across the country. Many other institutions currently operate one or two branch campuses.
Recently, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology announced plans to establish a branch in Khanh Hoa Province to increase access to education for students in the central region and to meet the local demand for skilled workers in economic development.
The Khanh Hoa branch is expected to focus on key fields such as Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Semiconductor and Microchip Design, Ocean Technology, and Logistics, with an emphasis on supporting the operation of the North-South high-speed railway.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education has also opened a branch in Binh Phuoc Province, utilizing the existing facilities of Binh Phuoc College. The Binh Phuoc branch plans to offer programs in Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology, Control and Automation Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Automotive Engineering Technology, Information Technology, Industrial Management, Accounting, E-commerce, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, International Business, and English Language.
The branch, with an investment of approximately 341 billion VND (around 14 million USD), aims to train around 5,900 students by 2036, including 2,800 full-time students.
Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education has launched a branch in Gia Lai Province, utilizing the facilities of Gia Lai Pedagogical College.
Scheduled to open in 2025, the branch will initially enroll over 300 students in Preschool Education, Primary Education, and Natural Science Education.
It will also provide professional development training for preschool and primary school teachers, as well as language and ethnic minority language training for public officials.

Can Tho University recently established a branch in Soc Trang Province by taking over the facilities of Soc Trang Community College.
The branch plans to offer graduate programs in Information Technology, Agricultural Systems with a focus on Climate Change and Sustainable Tropical Agriculture, and Plant Science with a focus on Smart Agriculture Technology.
Starting in 2025, the branch will offer undergraduate programs in Accounting, Law, and Logistics and Supply Chain Management.
In southern Vietnam, many universities in Ho Chi Minh City already have one or two branch campuses in other provinces.
For example, Nong Lam University has branches in Gia Lai and Ninh Thuan, Ton Duc Thang University has branches in Khanh Hoa and Lam Dong, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City has a branch in Vinh Long, and the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City has a branch in Ben Tre. Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City has branches in Quang Ngai and Thanh Hoa.
In northern Vietnam, major universities are also establishing new branches. The National Economics University and Banking Academy will open their second campuses at Nam Cao University Village in Ha Nam Province, approximately 50 kilometers from Hanoi.
This site covers more than 750 hectares and is expected to accommodate 50,000 students, 4,000 lecturers, and around 30,000 urban residents.
Hanoi University of Science and Technology plans to build a second campus in Van Giang District, Hung Yen Province.
Hanoi Medical University will also construct a new campus in Bac Ninh Province, covering about 30 hectares, with an investment of 3.15 trillion VND (approximately 129 million USD).
The project will include academic facilities for 3,000 students, a hospital with 1,000 beds, and high-tech medical research institutes.
Several other universities are also planning to establish new branches in Bac Ninh. These include Hanoi Law University, with a nearly 28-hectare campus in Tu Son City, costing over 1.7 trillion VND (approximately 70 million USD); Hanoi University of Pharmacy, covering 20 hectares and costing over 1.35 trillion VND (around 55 million USD), expected to host about 5,000 students; and Foreign Trade University, planning a campus in Dong Nguyen Ward, Tu Son City.
