Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is set to participate in the Greater Mekong Subregion Cooperation Summit, the Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy Summit, and the Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam Cooperation Summit.
On the afternoon of November 3, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that, at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will lead a high-level Vietnamese delegation to attend the 8th Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Cooperation Summit from November 5-8.
During this visit, the Prime Minister will also take part in the 10th Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) Summit, the 11th Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam (CLMV) Cooperation Summit and conduct other official engagements in China.
The GMS Cooperation Summit, held every three years, is the highest forum within the Greater Mekong Subregion program. It focuses on discussing opportunities and global trends affecting the subregion, the progress of cooperation and integration, and strategic plans for the coming years.
This year’s GMS Summit will take place in Kunming, China, under the theme “Towards a better community through innovation-driven development.”
The ACMECS Summit, established in 2003, is a cooperation framework involving Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam to leverage the diverse strengths of member countries and promote balanced development across the subregion.
The CLMV Cooperation Summit, initiated in 2004, serves as an open cooperative mechanism that maximizes the advantages and potential of CLMV countries while also seeking support from other ASEAN nations and development partners.
CLMV cooperation also provides a platform for these countries to coordinate their positions and protect their interests during ASEAN economic integration and in ASEAN’s relations with other partners.
The six areas of CLMV cooperation include: trade and investment; agriculture; industry and energy; transportation; tourism; and human resource development.
