In 2024, over 157,200 new enterprises were registered nationwide. Among these, Vietnam’s two largest cities accounted for the highest number of newly established businesses.

According to the General Statistics Office, the total number of newly registered enterprises in 2024 was over 157,200, with a combined registered capital of more than 1.54 quadrillion VND (approximately 64.9 billion USD) and over 1 million registered workers.

Compared to the previous year, this represents decreases of 1.4% in the number of enterprises, 1.8% in registered capital, and 5.4% in registered workers.

The total additional capital registered by enterprises into the economy in 2024 exceeded 2 quadrillion VND, a 3.6% increase compared to 2023.

Additionally, nearly 76,200 businesses resumed operations in 2024, marking a 30.4% increase from 2023. This brings the total number of newly established and reactivated businesses to over 233,400, a 7.1% rise year-over-year. On average, close to 19,500 businesses were either newly established or resumed operations each month.

Regional and provincial highlights

Newly registered enterprises were predominantly concentrated in two regions: the Southeast, with 65,900 enterprises (41.9%), and the Red River Delta, with 48,000 enterprises (30.5%).

Three out of six economic regions saw an increase in new business registrations compared to 2023. Specifically, the Northern Midlands and Mountainous Region recorded over 8,200 new enterprises, a 3.8% increase; the Central Highlands registered nearly 4,100 new enterprises, up 1.6%; and the Mekong Delta saw over 12,700 new businesses, a notable 11.4% rise.

Ho Chi Minh City led the nation with the highest number of new business registrations, totaling 48,664 enterprises.

Hanoi followed with 28,931 enterprises, while other provinces such as Binh Duong (8,671), Dong Nai (4,608), Bac Ninh (3,820), and Thanh Hoa (3,684) also saw significant numbers.

Resumed operations and sectoral growth

Across all industries, the number of businesses resuming operations in 2024 increased compared to 2023. For example, agriculture, forestry, and fisheries saw 998 businesses resume operations, a 24% rise. Mining recorded 506 businesses, a 15.3% increase.

In the manufacturing and processing sector, over 8,800 businesses resumed, representing a 29% growth. The finance, banking, and insurance sector saw 604 businesses resume operations, a 12.5% rise. Meanwhile, the real estate sector recorded more than 3,200 businesses returning to the market, a remarkable 42.2% increase.
