A growing regional player

Vietnam ranks among the top five Southeast Asian countries for eSports viewership, with 16% of its population following eSports in 2023 - on par with Indonesia and Taiwan.

In 2023, Vietnam's electronic entertainment market boasted 28.2 million participants, representing 28.7% of the population. The rising popularity of eSports in Vietnam positions it as a serious contender among other mainstream sports.

Revenue growth in eSports

The Vietnamese eSports industry generated $5.78 million in 2023, marking an 11.15% increase compared to 2022. The compound annual growth rate (CAGR) for revenue stands at 10.95%, underscoring the rapid development of this sector.

Sponsorship and advertising accounted for the largest share of 2023’s eSports revenue, contributing approximately $1.7 million. Broadcasting rights followed with over $1.4 million, a 31.7% increase from 2022.

Rise of eSports tournaments

The 2022–2023 period saw a surge in eSports tournaments in Vietnam. The total prize pool for domestic eSports competitions in 2023 exceeded 41 billion VND (about $1.7 million), a 32.26% increase from the previous year.

Among the various eSports titles, Liên Quân Mobile (Arena of Valor) emerged as the most popular, with total prize money surpassing 12 billion VND in 2023.

Vietnam’s growth is part of a larger trend in Southeast Asia, where the electronic entertainment market is projected to reach $14.8 billion by 2024 and $14.93 billion by 2029, with a CAGR of 0.19%.
