VietNamNet Bridge – Viet Nam's Xiangqi (Chinese chess) team will compete in the SportAccord World Mind Games which kick off today in Beijing, China.

Coach Hoang Dinh Hong said from Beijing that eight masters - four men and four women - from Viet Nam, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, the US, Germany, China and Canada would compete.

The men will compete in a one-leg round robin format while the women will take part in a two-leg round robin.

The male winner will walk away with US$10,000 while the female winner will receive $7,000.

The Vietnamese representatives are Asian/national champion Nguyen Hoang Lam (men's) and national champion Cao Phuong Thanh (women's).

In addition to chess, Xiangqi, go and draughts will also be played.

Last year in Beijing, Viet Nam pocketed a silver medal in the women's xiangqi event thanks to master Ngo Lan Huong.
