According to GrandPrix, which gets the latest Formula 1 news and features, Stefano Domenicali, president & CEO of Formula 1, stopped over in Vietnam, during his recent Australian trip, to examine the possibility to bring the race to the Southeast Asian nation.
Domenicali is considering increasing the number of events to at least 25 for next season in several countries, the site wrote.
If Vietnam is selected, it would be the first ever Grand Prix, as the scheduled 2020 race was cancelled due to the outbreak of COVID-19.
For South Africa it would mark a return to the racing calendar after 31 years, with the last Formula One race there being held in Kyalami at the start of the 1993 season.
South Africa has agreed to contribute US$50 million to the total estimated cost of US$250 million for the 2024 season.
