Overview of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) meeting.

The unanimous election of Vietnam to the UN Women Executive Board by ECOSOC members reflects international recognition of Vietnam’s policies and achievements in promoting gender equality and its collaborative efforts in this field.

This also demonstrates confidence in Vietnam’s potential to make positive contributions to UN Women’s leadership in the coming term.

UN Women was established in July 2010 under United Nations General Assembly Resolution 64/289 as part of the UN reform agenda.

Its mission is to accelerate the achievement of UN goals on gender equality and women’s empowerment, combat discrimination against women and girls, and ensure fairness between women and men in development, human rights, and humanitarian, peace, and security activities.
