VietNamNet Bridge – Experts and high-ranking officials from Vietnam and Japan will gather together at a meeting next Thursday in Hanoi to discuss how Japan can get involved in Vietnam’s industrialization strategy.

The high-level meeting is part of the Vietnam - Japan Economic Summit 2013 hosted by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) together with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and Nikkei Business Publications.

Officials and experts from the Central Institute for Economic Management, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), JETRO, and many international and local corporations will explore how Japan can further contribute to Vietnam’s industrialization strategy at the Daewoo Hotel Hanoi.

Since Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung signed a decision on July 1, 2013 approving Vietnam’s industrialization strategy within the Framework of Vietnam – Japan Cooperation, policymakers and entrepreneurs from both countries have been actively looking for ways to encourage industrialization in Vietnam.

According to a study conducted by JICA and the National Economic University, what Vietnam needs is “policy response with concrete numbers and timetables to the imminent industrial problems that the country faces, and the ability to design such response.”

Furthermore, “it has to be a comprehensive and long-term industrialization strategy coupled with master plans for individual key industries based on this strategy.”

At the summit next week, speakers will touch on those key industries that will be the backbone of the industrialization strategy, including electronics, agricultural machines, farm produce and seafood processing, shipbuilding, environment and energy saving technology, automobiles and automobile spare part manufacturing.

The expert panel at the summit will also discuss responsibilities and support from not only the Vietnamese Government but also the Japanese Government in fulfilling the industrialization strategy.

The three-day summit is one of the major activities to commemorate 40 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan. The high-profile event is expected to attract over 300 guests including business executives, industry experts, policy-makers and government officials from both countries.

Participants will be joining together in business matching sessions while browsing around the exhibition booths from local and joint venture manufacturers, with an option to attend site visits to industrial parks.

Other cities and provinces also show special attention to the event as well as the potential partnership with Japan, with 15 registrations from localities across the country.

Over 40 years of friendship with more than 10 years being strategic partners, Vietnam and Japan have established a bonding relationship with mutual benefits. Japan is the right partner to assist Vietnam in forming and realizing policies and actions related to Vietnam’s industrialization, according to the organizers.

Apart from the organizers, the event also has supports from the Vietnam – Japan Friendship Parliamentarians Caucus, the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, and various ministries and organizations of Vietnam and Japan.
