This visit comes at a meaningful time in 2025, marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and China (January 18, 1950 - January 18, 2025).
The visit aims to promote and deepen the framework of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China, strengthening the strategic Vietnam - China community with a shared future and elevating bilateral ties to a new level.
It is also a significant political and diplomatic event for both Parties and nations, with long-term strategic impact on Vietnam - China relations as both countries enter a new era of development.
The two leaders are expected to engage in in-depth discussions on strengthening and deepening bilateral ties, including maintaining the tradition of regular high-level exchanges, enhancing political trust, effectively implementing high-level consensus and signed agreements, and expanding practical cooperation under the “six enhancements” approach to achieve concrete results and new highlights.

4:20 PM
Following the welcoming ceremony, General Secretary To Lam and General Secretary and President Xi Jinping proceeded to the Communist Party of Vietnam headquarters to begin official talks. The two leaders are expected to discuss strategic directions for bilateral relations.
Xi Jinping’s visit to Vietnam is a major diplomatic and political event, with strategic significance for both nations, influencing the future development of Vietnam - China relations in this new era.
4:15 PM
The two leaders reviewed the honor guard of the Vietnam People's Army. The soldiers loudly chanted: “Wishing the General Secretary and President good health!”
After the review, the leaders introduced the members of each country’s delegation. The honor guard then marched past the review stand, and the two leaders posed for photos on the steps of the Presidential Palace.
4:00 PM
The motorcade carrying General Secretary and President Xi Jinping arrived at the Presidential Palace, where General Secretary To Lam personally greeted him at the car door.
The two leaders shook hands and conversed briefly. Hanoi schoolchildren presented flowers to Xi Jinping in a warm welcome.
Attending the ceremony were senior Vietnamese leaders including Politburo members Tran Cam Tu, Le Minh Hung, Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Nguyen Trong Nghia, Do Van Chien, General Phan Van Giang, and General Luong Tam Quang, along with Central Committee members Vo Thi Anh Xuan, Bui Thanh Son, and Tran Quang Phuong.
Also present were several other Central Committee members and leaders from various ministries and sectors.
Hanoi was bathed in golden sunshine as the national flags of Vietnam and China fluttered against the sky. The Vietnam People's Army honor guard stood at attention, ready to welcome the two leaders.
The leaders then stepped onto the podium for the flag-raising ceremony.
A 21-gun salute was fired from the Thang Long Imperial Citadel as the leaders stood for the national anthems – the most formal salute for a visiting head of state.
3:45 PM
The motorcade carrying Xi Jinping departed from the JW Marriott Hotel, traveling along Do Duc Duc - Pham Hung - Tran Duy Hung - Nguyen Chi Thanh - Lieu Giai - Kim Ma - Nguyen Thai Hoc - Chu Van An - Dien Bien Phu - Doc Lap - Hoang Van Thu - Hung Vuong streets en route to the Presidential Palace.
At the Presidential Palace, the ceremonial guard took position while schoolchildren cheerfully waved flags of both nations. Vietnamese and international journalists gathered at their designated locations in anticipation of the leaders’ arrival.
Along the route from the Presidential Palace to the Communist Party headquarters, citizens stood waving Vietnamese and Chinese flags to welcome General Secretary and President Xi Jinping.
