The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment signed the new protocols during the official visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Vietnam from April 14 to 15.
The signed protocols include:

The protocol on phytosanitary requirements for passion fruit exported from Vietnam to China
The protocol on animal and plant safety and quarantine for rice bran and defatted rice bran used as animal feed materials exported from Vietnam to China

In recent years, China has remained Vietnam’s largest agricultural export market. In 2024 alone, Chinese consumers spent USD 4.6 billion on Vietnamese fruits and vegetables, primarily durian, dragon fruit, bananas, and jackfruit.
In the first three months of 2025, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports to China reached USD 521.2 million, accounting for 47.8% of the sector's total export value.
Currently, 14 types of Vietnamese agricultural products are officially exported to China. Of these, six are covered under signed export protocols, while six traditional items are still being exported without standardized agreements.
Chili and passion fruit have so far been exported under a pilot scheme.
To date, the two countries have signed 24 memoranda of understanding and protocols regarding the import and export of agricultural, forestry, and fishery products. In 2024 alone, four export protocols were signed for frozen durian, crocodile, monkey, and fresh coconut.
