VietNamNet Bridge – Eight Vietnamese athletes are taking part in the 20th Asian Athletics Championships, which kicked off at Shiv Chhatrapati Stadium in Pune, India on July 3.

The team consists of Dao Xuan Cuong (men’s 400m hurdles), Duong Van Thai (men’s 800m and 1,500m run), Pham Tien San (men’s 3000m steeplechase), Nguyen Thi Huyen (women’s 400m run), Pham Thi Diem (women’s high jump), Do Thi Thao (women’s 800m and 1,500m run), Nguyen Van Hue (men’s decathlon) and Tran Hue Hoa (women’s triple jump).

Do Thi Thao and Tran Hue Hoa remain Vietnam’s main medal hopefuls at this year’s event. Thao ran away with three silvers in the women’s 800m races at the 2013 Asian Athletics Grand Prix in Thailand and Sri Lanka two months ago, while triple jumper Hoa was also impressive with two gold medals at the recent Taiwan Open and Singapore Open athletic tournaments.

The five-day biennial championship welcomes 360 men and 220 women representing 43 countries and territories from across the continent.
