Vessels of the High Command of Coast Guard Region 3, while doing their duty in the southern continental shelf, discovered and detained the ship SIAM VARICH, IMO number 753440, of captain Phirom Sukpheng, 57, Thai nationality.

The ship was seized for illegally transporting about 1.7 million liters of DO oil (according to the captain's testimony) without proof of legal origin. All 11 crew members do not have professional certificates. The ship does not have registration or verification certificates. The captain confessed to transporting oil into Vietnamese waters for sale and admitted that this act is completely contrary to international and Vietnamese law.

This volume of oil is worth about VND15 billion.

Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Phung Hung, Deputy Commander of Law of the High Command of Coast Guard Region 3 said that in order to minimize petroleum trading activities at sea, the competent forces have to propagate fishermen to help them understand that the act of buying and selling petroleum at sea is against the law. In addition, functional agencies have synchronously implemented professional measures to grasp the situation, to patrol, control as well as effectively fight to prevent violations of Vietnamese law.

So far this year, the High Command of Coast Guard Region 3 has detected and arrested 7 similar cases.
