VietNamNet Bridge – Top Vietnamese and Chinese Party leaders made a phone call on January 22, acknowledging considerable progress in the two countries’ relations in 2013.

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong and General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and President Xi Jinping agreed on measures to maintain and promote bilateral relations in a stable, practical and healthy manner.

Both sides will increase high-level visit exchanges to share development experiences and boost cooperation through the Vietnam-China Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation, as well as people-to-people exchanges, primarily for young people.

They agreed to work closely together to maintain peace and stability in the East Sea in line with common perceptions and agreements between the two countries’ top leaders.

Party leader Trong congratulated the Party, State and people of China on their development achievements, and wished them greater success in building socialism imbued with Chinese characteristics.

Party leader Xi affirmed the Party, State and people of China attach great importance to the traditional friendship and neighbourly relationship with Vietnam.

He highly valued Vietnam’s Renewal achievements and briefed Trong on the major contents of the recent third plenum of the Communist Party of China.

The two leaders extended best wishes to Vietnamese and Chinese people in the lead up to the Lunar New Year of the Horse (2014).
