In the secondary school category, a team from Pennsylvania American International School in Ho Chi Minh City won the Inspire Award, while one team representing Trung Vuong Secondary School in Hanoi won the Sportsmanship Award.
At the primary school category, three Hanoi teams from Vinschool, Archimedes and True North, and Delta Global won the Design Award, Innovate Award, and Third Place Award, respectively.
Dr Tran Viet Hung, cofounder of STEAM for Vietnam, a US non-profit organisation founded and operated by Vietnamese professionals and students all over the world, said that the results were beyond their expectations as the 19 Vietnamese teams had merely hoped to gain experience from the event.
Earlier, STEAM for Vietnam in collaboration with the US Embassy in Hanoi and the Hanoi University of Technology held a qualifying event in Vietnam to select 19 out of 162 teams from 169 primary and secondary schools for the global contest.
This year, the championships attracted over 30,000 students from 50 countries and territories worldwide.
