The Ministry of Construction has officially approved the detailed master plan for the development of Da Nang's coastal port region for the 2021–2030 period, outlining a comprehensive investment of over 23,335 billion VND (approximately 946 million USD).
The plan encompasses the Tien Sa, Lien Chieu, Tho Quang, My Khe port areas, as well as the Hoang Sa island district port, and associated anchorage areas, transshipment zones, and storm shelter sites.
By 2030, Da Nang’s ports are expected to handle between 23–29 million tonnes of cargo annually, and accommodate 532,300 to 597,000 passengers. The plan includes 12–15 port areas, featuring 20–23 wharves with a total length ranging from 4,220 to 5,745 meters.
Looking ahead to 2050, Da Nang will continue developing new port terminals to meet projected cargo growth at an annual average rate of 4.5% to 5.5%. Central to this expansion is the Lien Chieu Port complex, designed to feature up to 22 terminals, including 8 liquid/gas terminals, 8 container terminals, and 6 general cargo/bulk terminals. Container capacity will be scaled up according to demand in future planning phases.
By 2030, the plan allocates approximately 167 hectares of land for port development - not including areas for logistics and industrial zones that may emerge in connection with port activity.
The total projected capital investment required by 2030 is 23,335 billion VND, broken down as follows:
6,505 billion VND (264 million USD) for public maritime infrastructure
16,830 billion VND (682 million USD) for commercial port terminals and cargo handling services
The approval of this plan marks a major milestone in Da Nang’s strategic transformation into a key maritime and logistics hub in central Vietnam, strengthening its role in international trade, cargo transshipment, and passenger services across the East Sea region.
