On the evening of April 23, Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade and Chief Government Negotiator Nguyen Hong Dien held a teleconference with U.S. Chief Trade Representative Jamieson L. Greer, officially initiating bilateral negotiations on economic and trade issues between the two nations.

This significant meeting aimed to define the principles, scope, and roadmap for the upcoming negotiations.

The teleconference was attended by members of Vietnam’s government negotiation team and technical representatives from various ministries and agencies.

During the conversation, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien emphasized that Vietnam values its comprehensive strategic partnership with the United States and is committed to promoting economic and trade relations that are balanced, stable, sustainable, and mutually beneficial.

Vietnamese ministries expressed readiness to address U.S. concerns and to work with their American counterparts in seeking reasonable, mutually advantageous solutions, guided by the principles of shared benefits and risk-sharing.

From the U.S. side, Jamieson L. Greer praised the consensus reached to begin bilateral trade negotiations. He expressed confidence that both countries would soon arrive at appropriate solutions to foster a stable and mutually beneficial economic and trade relationship.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both chief negotiators agreed to maintain regular communications - both at the leadership and technical levels - to accelerate negotiations on specific matters.
