Currently, more than 300 Vietnamese news organizations - from national to local levels - are operating TikTok accounts, according to TikTok Vietnam.

The country has recorded exceptional growth in social news content on the platform, placing it among the world's top-performing nations.

The workshop covered tools and techniques for producing engaging journalistic content, maximizing reach, and adhering to updated community and copyright policies on TikTok.

Nino Luu, TikTok’s Publishing Partnerships Manager for the Asia-Pacific region, highlighted key strategies for building safe and effective news channels.

He recommended optimizing the first eight seconds of videos to retain viewers, posting at least one video daily, and producing 60 videos per month to maintain consistent engagement.

Luu also advised news agencies against using VPNs or posting content while abroad to avoid misclassification as foreign users, which can limit content reach among Vietnamese audiences.

To remain relevant, Luu suggested channel operators refresh their storytelling and creative approaches every three months.

Representatives from various news outlets shared experiences on growing and managing successful TikTok channels. Despite challenges like copyright infringement and monetizing TikTok views, some agencies have thrived.

VietNamNet, one of Vietnam’s earliest adopters of TikTok, boasts over 3.4 million followers. Vu Huyen Linh, Director of the Marketing Center, emphasized the importance of clearly defining a channel’s identity, maintaining consistent branding, and creating visually appealing content to engage audiences. Monetization, however, remains a significant challenge.

Dantri, with millions of followers on TikTok, credits its success to strict adherence to platform policies and a focus on quality and timeliness, with verified updates posted within two hours of events. Specialized roles for drafting and editing have further enhanced their operational efficiency.

Representatives from VnExpress raised concerns about content theft, where other accounts repurpose their original material for TikTok. They proposed an automated copyright scanning system to address infringements swiftly.

Justin Sim, from TikTok's Safety and Trust team, acknowledged the rise in copyright violation reports - from 56,200 in 2021 to over 300,000 in 2023 - reflecting both the platform’s growth and its stricter enforcement policies.

Sim reaffirmed TikTok's commitment to adhering to local regulations and improving features to protect content creators.
