She briefed them on the result of the summit which commended Vietnam for accomplishing six of the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), especially one on gender equality.

Doan affirmed that the Party and State continue introducing guidelines and policies to create favourable conditions for women to develop their capabilities, so as to increase the number of females taking on leadership in State agencies and businesses.

She appreciated the community’s sentiments towards the homeland, saying Vietnamese people in France united to contribute to the country’s past struggle for national liberation and they now pool resources for national development.

Doan took the occasion condemning China’s illegal placement of its giant floating oil rig Haiyang Shiyou-981 deep inside Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone, saying the move is serious violation of Vietnam’s sovereignty and has received strong opposition globally.

She asked them, together with the Vietnamese embassy, to help French organisations and people understand the naked truth of the issue and gather additional international support for Vietnamese people’s struggle to defend national sovereignty.

On June 6, Vice President Doan met with Secretary General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) Abdou Diouf on the sidelines of the summit.

She hailed the establishment of the Francophone Gender Equality Network, while suggesting that the organisation should strengthen cooperation in enhancing gender equality and the role of women.

Briefing Diouf on the current situation in the East Sea, Doan reiterated Vietnam’s stance towards settling territorial disputes through peaceful measures in accordance with international law, including the OIF Charter.

Diouf voiced support to Vietnam’s policy of solving disputes through peaceful measures in line with international law. He also emphasised that he and the Francophone community always back Vietnam – a responsible member of the community - with strongest solidarity.
