VietNamNet Bridge – The Vietnam Food Association (VFA) said it would introduce a new form of contract to prevent cancellation of rice export contracts, which has been rampant in recent months.
China has become the biggest rice export market for Vietnam, but it’s not easy to earn money from the market. Exporters have been facing high risks relating to the payment, pricing and contract cancelation.
VietNamNet Bridge – The government has to spend big money to collect rice from farmers for storage to ensure the reasonably high profits for farmers. However, involved parties all have said the solution has not benefited them.
Vietnam’s rice exports have got stuck with the high inventory of 2 million tons of winter-spring rice by the end of the second quarter. Meanwhile, it is going to harvest 3.5 million tons of the summer-autumn rice.
Vietnamese rice exporters had delivered 1.45 million tons out of the total 3.57 million tons of exports by the end of the first quarter of the year, according to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA).
The government has decided that rice exporters would buy 2 million tons of husky rice from farmers. However, the effort by the government cannot ensure profits for farmers.
Although the Vietnam Food Association has repeatedly regulated floor prices for export rice to prevent a price slide and protect the domestic market, this policy is ignored by many food traders.
Vietnamese rice exporters have been selling rice at the prices below the floor prices, thus harming the whole rice agriculture production.
Many associations still neglect the needs of their members or find it hard to address such needs, heard a workshop on capacity of Vietnamese business associations held on Wednesday.
