VietNamNet Bridge – The Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute (Vinatom) and the United States (US) Westinghouse Electric Company have inked an agreement on human resource training cooperation for Vietnam’s nuclear power plant projects.
In his address at the signing ceremony on January 15 in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Viet Thanh said under the agreement, a channel will be established to develop a contingent of nuclear energy and nuclear technology experts for Vietnam.
The country is carrying out a nuclear power development programme thus requiring qualified staff to ensure the successful implementation.
US Deputy Ambassador to Vietnam Claire Pierangelo underscored the importance of developing manpower for operating the nuclear power plant while highlighting the significance of the signing when the two countries will be celebrating 20 years of normalized diplomatic relations this year.
Claire Pierangelo said she hopes the cooperation will help further cooperation in nuclear technology and nuclear energy.
The Westinghouse Company has been an important partner of Vietnam in the nuclear power field, particularly in the training of manpower.
On the occasion, the company granted four scholarships to four Vinatom employees to study civil nuclear power in the US this year.
