A student at Hanoi University of Technology, from Thanh Hoa Province, for example, visited the school to apply to study at the automation faculty. But he seemed to be indecisive.
Prior to that, he registered to study at the pharmacy school. However, with a 26 score, he realized that he did not have opportunities to obtain a seat at the prestigious school.
Therefore, he decided to study automation, though he really did not want to.
“I dream of becoming a pharmacist. But I think I will not have opportunities to study at the Hanoi Pharmaceutical University,” he said.
“It will be a big waste of my parents’ money if I have to prepare for the national exam once again,” he said.
“I have no other choice. I have to apply for the automation faculty if I want to follow university education,” he said.
Phuong Anh, a student hom reporters met at the Hanoi Economics University on August 20, said she decided to register to study at the school as a last resort.
Anh wants to study at medical or pharmaceutical schools, but she failed to enter either school.
“The Hanoi Economics University is also a good school, though I prefer to attend medical school,” Anh explained.
“I will try to study economics and I may like the discipline, who knows,” she said. “If I still don’t like it, I will repeat the exam next year.”
Nguyen Thi Ha from Dan Phuong district in Hanoi said she felt sorry for the son who could not study information technology as he wanted.
“He failed to enroll in both the Hanoi University of Technology and Hanoi National University,” she explained.
Therefore, Ha decided that her son will apply for the Hanoi University of Education.
“He would rather study there and obtain a bachelor’s degree than go to vocational school. Higher education is always better,” she said.
An educator noted that it is exam scores, not students’ passion, which had decisively affected students’ decisions on schools. Research shows that people do not work well if they don’t have passion for the subject.
A report shows that 10,000 students applied for Hanoi Economics University, but 3,000 students canceled the applications later.
