Under the schedule set by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), universities (4-5- year training), junior colleges (3-year training) and intermediate schools (2-year training) must complete their 2019 enrollment plans and update plans on the ministry’s information portal.

However, though hundreds of schools have submitted their enrollment plans to MOET, the information still has not been updated on the information portal. 

“Enrollment plans can be seen on schools’ websites, but not on MOET’s website. Does this mean that the enrollment plans have been rejected by MOET?” a parent asked reporters. “So, what legal basis do students need to consider when filing applications?”

On March 26, when accessing MOET’s information portal, reporters found enrollment plans from only eight universities, namely Ton Duc Thang, HCMC Economics, HCMC Industry, HCMC Food Industry, Van Lang, Lac Hong, Vietnam-Germany and Dong Nai Technology.

Sai Gon Giai Phong quoted Pham Nhu Nghe, deputy director of the Higher Education Department, as saying that many schools applied specific enrollment requirements or opened new majors, and the information cannot be updated with the software. The problem is being fixed.

Meanwhile, it is still unclear about the number of students to be admitted by pedagogical schools, which have been asked to declare the numbers of students they want to enroll. After that, the MOET Minister will determine the ‘quotas’ for each major.

In the Dispatch No 706 released on February 28, MOET said schools must submit reports to the ministry prior to March 11.

According to Huynh To Hap from Sai Gon University, his school submitted enrollment plans and reports about pedagogical training majors. However, to date, the quotas have not been granted.

The information about pedagogical training majors is available on school’s website. However, the exact number of students to be enrolled will be determined only after the MOET gives approval.

Tran Dinh Ly, head of the training division at the HCMC University of Agriculture and Forestry, said that the school had submitted enrolment plans as requested, but the plan had not been approved.

The representative of the Business Administration Faculty of the Hanoi National University confirmed that the faculty cannot successfully declare information on the information system.

Meanwhile, some schools enrolling students for healthcare training majors, still disagree with the strict requirements set by MOET that only students with good or excellent marks can apply for 12 healthcare training majors.

However, MOET has insisted on the requirement, saying that only the best students should be accepted for medical schools.
