Schools have geared up their exam marking as there are 10 fewer days than previous years to finish the marking.

Nguyen Xuan Binh, head of the Vinh University’s Training Division, said the school has marked 100 bags of exam papers in social sciences exam subjects, and 150 bags of exam papers in natural sciences.

Exam markers noted that many examinees got good marks of 7, 8 and 9, predicting that the average scores from the national exam will be very high this year.

Trinh Minh Thu, vice president of the Hanoi Water Resources University, noted that there were many marks of 5-7 in math and 7-8 than in previous years. Students mostly got 5-7 for literature.

Kieu Xuan Thuc, head of the training division of the Hanoi Industry University, noted that most marks were 5-7 have been, while Hanoi University of Technology said many marks were 5.5-8.

An official of the Hanoi Economics University said that it would be difficult to enroll students this year as a high number of students got 6-7.5 mark for each exam subject.

“If we lower the required mark by 0.25 only, we would have hundreds of candidates more for every training major. Therefore, it would be very difficult to determine who is the best to be enrolled,” he said.

The representative of Hanoi Economics University said the school was considering additional requirements on students to be sure it can find the best students.

Pham Thi Thuy Vinh, headmaster of the Ngo Thoi Nhiem High School in District 9, HCM City, warned that many students would have the same exam marks because the exam questions were not really difficult for examinees.

As such, in order to select students, schools will have to set auxiliary requirements on students.

The information that schools may set additional requirements has worried students.

Thao Nguyen, a student in HCM City, said she expects to get 18 marks for three subjects – math, physics and chemistry.

“An 18 mark would have been a good result if I had attended the entrance university exam last year. However, I heard that the average mark this year would be very high thanks to easy exam questions,” she said.

A student in Hanoi said he was somewhat anxious because he does not know what additional requirements will be.

“They (universities) may consider my learning records at high school. If so, this will be bad news for me,” he said.
