During routine forest patrols, authorities discovered dozens of wild boars dead under unclear circumstances in Pu Mat National Park, Nghe An Province.
On December 9, Le Anh Tuan, Director of the Pu Mat National Park Management Board, confirmed that the park is collaborating with relevant agencies to investigate and collect samples for testing.
A total of 21 wild boars were found dead within the park, primarily in areas managed by the Khe Choang station (Chau Khe Commune, Con Cuong District) and the Khe Thoi, Tam Dinh, and Tam Hop stations (Tam Quang Commune, Tuong Duong District).
The carcasses were found near streams, with no signs of illegal hunting or human interference.
According to park officials, this is the first time such a large-scale mortality event has been recorded among the park's wild boars. There is speculation that a contagious disease may be spreading among the local wild boar population.
“To prevent the potential spread of disease - if confirmed - from wild boars to other wildlife and livestock in nearby villages, we have reported the situation to the authorities for sample testing and implemented disease prevention measures,” Tuan stated.
