Visiting Vietnam for the P4G Summit, two UN under-secretaries-general praised the country’s transformation and pledged continued support in key sustainable goals.
United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed and Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Executive Secretary of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), visited Vietnam to attend the P4G Summit and expressed admiration for the country’s transformation and leadership in sustainable development.

On April 17, State President Luong Cuong and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Amina Mohammed during her official visit.
President Luong Cuong welcomed Mohammed’s presence, describing it as a strong affirmation of the UN’s commitment to green growth and addressing global challenges, as well as to the enduring partnership between Vietnam and the UN. He emphasized Vietnam’s deep appreciation for the UN’s eight decades of support in promoting peace, international cooperation, and sustainable development.
Sharing Vietnam’s development vision for the coming years, President Cuong called on the UN to continue supporting the country’s priority areas, including implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), building a rule-of-law state, digital transformation, green transition, climate resilience, and other global challenges.
Amina Mohammed expressed her strong impression with Vietnam’s developmental achievements and highlighted the depth of nearly five decades of cooperation between the UN and Vietnam. She noted the UN values Vietnam’s growing global role and looks forward to sharing its success stories with international partners.
She outlined several joint initiatives, including follow-up to the Future Summit (New York, September 2024), preparations for the second World Summit for Social Development, the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30), and the fourth International Conference on Financing for Development.
During a separate meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed Vietnam’s goal of becoming a high-income, developed country by 2045. He asked the UN to continue supporting Vietnam in advancing science and technology, innovation, equitable energy transition, and green economic growth.

Stressing Vietnam’s role as a responsible UN member, the Prime Minister urged continued UN support for ASEAN’s centrality in the regional architecture. Vietnam stands ready to contribute actively to regional peace, stability, and prosperity, especially in the Asia-Pacific.
The UN deputy secretary-general commended Vietnam’s leadership in the green transition, noting the success of the P4G Summit as a reflection of its global commitment. She expressed admiration for Vietnam’s rapid development and active participation in UN peacekeeping operations and global forums.
She said the UN continues to seek member support in addressing global issues and remains focused on investment in technology, artificial intelligence, climate change mitigation, green growth financing, and building sustainable agriculture systems.
On the morning of April 17, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son met with Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, UN Deputy Secretary-General and ESCAP Executive Secretary.
