After the success of last year’s concert Troi va Dat (Heaven and Earth), which also gathered four divas of Vietnam, during his up-coming 10th concert, the divo has invited four noted veteran songwriters to join him.
Duong, who told Viet Nam News in an interview that his only pressure “is to offer my audience something new whenever I am on the stage”, will perform famous songs by the “Red River Quartet” including Nguyen Cuong, Tran Tien, Duong Thu, and Pho Duc Phuong during his concerts on June 5 and 6 in Hanoi.
The songwriters – all are the children of the Red River Delta – depict a musical portrait of the land where they were born and belong to.
“It’s impossible to remember how many times I’ve performed songs by those songwriters, who are also close friends of each other. I’m very grateful to know them, to learn a lot from them, and to be guided by them, they are like father figures to me. The up-coming concert will be my 10th, a milestone in my career and I think it’s a suitable occasion to show my respect for them through a concert dedicate only to their compositions,” the singer said at a press conference in Hanoi on Monday.
Duong, who also holds the record of 10 Vietnamese Devotion Music Awards, has expected that he will be able to present successfully character of each songwriter through their music.
Talking about Duong, the 75-year-old songwriter Cuong, who is most famous for his songs about the Central Highlands area, said he never ever expected to meet a true friend at his age.
“The most special feature of Duong is his Vietnamese spirit which has been absorbed into his soul and through his veins. Any song he sings become very classy and heart-touching,” Cuong said.
The songwriter and the singer are working together on a joint album which they hope to release at the end of this year.
Although songwriter Phuong, who’s songs are inspired by folk tunes, has just listened to Duong’s music recently but he has been won over by his powerful voice.
“I was surprised when I listen to my songs that have been performed by Duong. Although those songs became hits of some other famous singers, Duong knows how to make it fresh and different from any previous versions. It proves that he not only has worked seriously but also has a great sensibility and creativeness,” the 74-year-old songwriter said.
Phuong also said Duong’s success not only comes from his beautiful voice, but also from his hardwork.
Two other songwriters Tien, 71, and Thu, 75, also praised the singer.
While Tien said that Duong and his up-coming live show will help him to ‘shine’ again, Thu praised the singer as a true artist, who unites both the diversity and uniqueness.
Alongside the “Red River Quartet”, Duong also has invited two other special guests to share the stage with him – singer Bang Kieu and diva Ha Tran.
The live show Tung Duong Sings Songs by Red River Quartet will take place at the Hanoi’s Friendship Palace, 91 Tran Hung Dao Street.
