VietNamNet Bridge - At least three people were killed in Quang Nam and 11 others injured in Danang when typhoon Nari, packing winds of up to 150kph, battered central provinces early on October 15.

Although Nari swept across the central region and headed towards Laos, it has caused huge property damage to Danang and Quang Nam which were in and near the direct path of the storm.
Initial reports show the storm brought down trees, pelt off roofs and broke windows of high-rise buildings. It submerged thousands of houses and large acreage of rice and subsidiary crops.
In Danang, initial reports show at least 7 local residents were injured, including 4 in Ngu Hanh Son, 2 in Hoa Vang and 1 in Son Tra district.
Local residents spent a sleepless night in darkness to reinforce their houses and public works.
Power workers are working hard to restore the power system, giving priority to hospitals and key administrative offices.
The city’s two water supply plants - Cau Do and San Bay - stopped operation due to the outage, and they planned to use power generators instead to resume water supplies for domestic use.
In Quang Nam, torrential rains and high tidal surges breached parts of the sea dyke embankment of Cua Dai beach.
The storm tore thousands of houses and schools apart, downed big trees and power lines, and damaged roads.

Many roads in Tam Ky and Hoi An towns were in deep water. Water levels of the Hoai River are rising quickly, submerging thousands of houses in the UNESCO-recognised Ancient Town of Hoi An.
The whole province has suffered a serious outage of all services since the evening of October 14.
The storm dumped heavy rains of up to 142mm on the province, causing water river levels to swell up quickly.
Provincial authorities are fanning out to localities to help with emergency aid and rescue work.
Two teenagers in Thua Thien-Hue were swept into the sea by large waves on the afternoon of October 13, according to local authorities.
Nguyen Hoai Nam, 13, and Nguyen Van Bao, 15, were pulled into the violent waves while fishing near Chan May port.
Local border guards and local authorities have yet to find their bodies.
Water levels of the Huong River in Hue city spilled over into residential areas, forcing the police to install waning barriers.
Heavy downpours also flooded parts of Hue city. People rushed to supermarkets and shops to purchase food and vegetables for reserves in the event of prolonged rains in a couple of days.
At an urgent meeting in Hue city on October 15, Central Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control leaders asked central provinces to regulate reservoirs properly to ease pressure on the basin region, as the post-storm circulation and a current cold spell are expected to bring heavy rains to the region.
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat also stayed awake the whole night, instructing storm prevention work.
Phat warned local people should stay indoors to avoid unexpected injuries.
Vietnam Airlines has cancelled more than 20 flights from Hue and Da Nang airports.
