The two turtles were kept at the Vietnam National Museum of Nature's Centre for Conservation of Vietnam Natural Resources and Rescue of Animals and Plant located in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue’s Phong Dien District.

According to the data extracted from the centre’s camera, around 6 am on April 11, a person broke into the centre and stole the two turtles.

The turtles belong to endangered species, weighing 600-700 grammes each. They were handed over to the centre along with four other turtles in October 2021.

The centre has reported the case to Phong Dien District’s police.
