Hundreds of patient at the HCM City Orthopedic Trauma Hospital.

The inspection was conducted from May, after the Health Department received denunciation letters from the hospital staff.

At the Orthopedic Trauma Hospital, the inspectors checked more than 32,000 X-ray films in October 2010, November 2011 and June 2012 and discovered 6,688 films that were changed in size, from large to small.

In addition, in 3 years, this hospital also lost about 15,500 sheets for films with a value of about VND500 million (about $30,000).

According to inspectors, the change of X-ray film size from large to small can bring about billion dong of profit for doctors.

However, inspectors said they could not define when such wrong acts began at this hospital because of lacking documents.

At the Binh Dan Hospital, health inspectors also found a number of violations.

Specifically, from 2009 to 2012, the hospital illegally combined with several private companies to offer test and scan services. Inspectors found that each doctor at Binh Dan hospital who asked patients to use ultrasound and x-ray services of these private firms earned VND40,000/50,000/patient. "A number of staff in the hospital board of directors benefited from these relations," inspectors said.

In addition, Binh Dan Hospital misspent over VND1 billion ($50,000) for the purchase of machinery which have not yet been put to use.

Binh Dan Hospital has just had a new director.
