VietNamNet Bridge – On Monday morning, two earthquakes occurred consecutively in the area of Song Tranh 2 hydropower plant in Quang Nam province.

According to the Institute of Geophysics, the first quake occurred at 1.18 am, at 2.6 on the Richter scale and the focal depth of 7 km.
The second quake occurred about 1 hour later, at 1.7 on the Richter scale and the focal depth of about 7 km.
According to the institute's director, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, the two earthquakes were minor, so they did not cause damage to people and public works.
Mr. Nguyen Nhuan, Vice Chair of the People's Committee of Bac Tra My district, said the two quakes did not affect local people very much. However, the local government is conducting an inspection and will give support for any damage.
Dozens of earthquakes have occured in this area since 2012.
Experts from the Geophysics Institute said that it is most likely that unusual heavy rainfall flew to the Song Tranh 2 reservoir had effects on the geological fault zone, stimulating earthquakes in this region.
