The Vietnam Association of Pay TV (VNpayTV) has just sent a letter to the MP & Silva Company asking for negotiations over the broadcasting rights for English Premier League for the 2016-2019 period with 10 TV stations in Vietnam.

It is predicted that the broadcasting price asked by the London-based MP&Silva Company, who won distribution rights to the Premier League for the 2016-2019 seasons for 28 countries in East and Southeast Asia, to Vietnamese stations will not be less than USD70 million, which is nearly two times higher than the fee K+ station paid to IMG Company for the broadcasting rights from 2013 to 2016.

A bidding war for the broadcasting rights of the popular English Premiere League among TV stations saw the Ministry of Communications and Information intervene to seek a solution.

A team with members from 10 TV stations including VTV, VTC, VTVCab, VTC Digital, SCTV, VSTV, AVG, VNPT Media, Viettel Telecom, and FPT Telecom has been set up with an agreement to only buy the broadcasting rights at the prices no more than 20% of that in the 2013-2016 seasons.

VNpayTV's vice chairman and general secretary, Le Dinh Cuong, was appointed head of the team, but there is no guarantee MP&Silva will sell the rights at a cheaper price.
