MC Bich Hong’s recent statement about traffic disruptions caused by a rehearsal for Vietnam’s April 30 national celebration has ignited widespread outrage, prompting SCTV4 to issue an official response.

A representative from SCTV4 told VietNamNet: “MC Bich Hong is a freelance collaborator with SCTV. The post in question has been removed, and her Facebook account has been deactivated. The channel has halted all programs and images related to her and will end its collaboration with Bich Hong. We will also remind all staff and employees of the station.”

Accordingly, as of April 19, SCTV4 has suspended all programming, visuals, and cooperation involving MC Bich Hong.

On April 19, social media users widely circulated a post from an account believed to belong to MC Bich Hong, who was affiliated with SCTV4. In the post, she expressed frustration over traffic delays caused by the military parade rehearsal held on the evening of April 18:

“Many thanks to the parade rehearsal. Instead of 45 minutes from District 12 to District 7, it now takes 1 hour and 30 minutes crawling inch by inch on the road. As someone born and raised in Saigon, I must say I’m not happy… because it’s very annoying.”

The post quickly went viral and was reposted across various online forums. Netizens criticized her for having a negative and inappropriate attitude, especially considering her role as a television host.

Harsh reactions included comments like:

“Why not think like someone who’s lucky to live in peace and independence before posting?”

“Many gave their lives at age 20 so you could complain about waiting in traffic for an hour and a half.”

Facing overwhelming backlash, the MC deactivated all her social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Threads. The controversial post was also deleted promptly.

VietNamNet contacted SCTV, the broadcaster MC Bich Hong worked with. A representative confirmed that they had been aware of the incident since the night of April 18 following public complaints. The spokesperson added: “Bich Hong is only a freelance MC and not an official employee. We will soon issue an official statement from our Board of Directors.”

The rehearsal on the evening of April 18 in Ho Chi Minh City was part of preparations for the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification. Numerous central city streets were closed from 6 PM until late to accommodate the military and civilian units participating in the practice parade.
