The network aims to broaden educational, scientific, and technological cooperation between Vietnam and China; improve the quality of high-level human resource training for Vietnam; and support the country's integration in the fields of science and education.

Through the Vietnam - China University Network, member institutions can initiate diverse cooperation activities such as joint research and training projects; collaborative scientific events; sharing of information, documents, and academic publications; and exchange of staff, lecturers, and students.

"Promoting cooperation between educational institutions of the two countries through the network will help Vietnam improve its pool of experts, master advanced technologies, and contribute to breakthroughs in the nation’s socio-economic development in this era of global emergence," VNU stated.

The two universities have also agreed to consider establishing a joint Vietnam - China Artificial Intelligence Research and Development Laboratory, as well as appoint representatives at each other’s institutions.

The memorandum of understanding affirms both parties' commitment to enhancing cooperation in digital education and jointly addressing the opportunities and challenges presented by artificial intelligence (AI) and online learning.

VNU and Tsinghua University have maintained relations since 2006. In August 2024, they signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in research, exchange of lecturers, researchers and students, joint organization of academic workshops and conferences, and sharing of educational, research, publishing, and academic information resources.
