VietNamNet Bridge – French artists on Friday night lit 4,000 candles on Truong Tien bridge, creating a different kind of beauty for the iconic bridge of Hue City.
The Carabosse fire installation art troupe from France created the performance. The event took place on Friday evening, as part of Hue Festival 2014.
Thousands of people flocked to the 400+ meter, 6m wide steel bridge before the show. The preparation was elaborately conducted several days before the performance.
At 7.30pm, the French artists poured oil on candle pots.
Then they lit them on fire.
Truong Tien Bridge was designed by the French in the early colonial period. The bridge was completed in 1899. Thanh Thai King paid over 400 million dong for the construction of this bridge, a huge amount at that time.
Dozens of artists walked along the bridge to light up the candles. It took them about half an hour to light all 4,000. Thousands of spectators stood at the bridge heads to see the show.
On the bridge, photos of Vietnam’s 54 ethnic groups, by French photographer Sebastienne Laval, were displayed.
People grouped up at the bridge heads.
At the intersection of Le Loi and Hung Vuong streets, a group of musicians played.
This is the second time the Carabosse art troupe has performed at the Hue Festival. In 2012, they lit a fire around the Hue Royal Citadel. The troupe made a second performance on the bridge on Sunday night.
