On January 23, the Party Central Committee elected Tran Luu Quang, head of the Central Economic Commission, to the Secretariat of the 13th Party Central Committee.
Tran Luu Quang was born in 1967 in Trang Bang Ward, Trang Bang Town, Tay Ninh Province.
He holds a master’s degree in Public Administration and is also a mechanical engineer.
Tran Luu Quang is a member of the Party Central Committee for the 11th (alternate), 12th, and 13th terms, as well as a deputy in the 14th and 15th National Assemblies.
Tran Luu Quang has had a long association with his hometown of Tay Ninh, beginning as a specialist at the provincial Department of Planning and Investment.
He has held various positions, including:
Head of the External Economic Relations Division at the Department of Planning and Investment.
Deputy Head of the Management Board for Moc Bai Border Gate Economic Zone.
Deputy Director of the Department of Planning and Investment.
Chairman and then Secretary of the Trang Bang District Party Committee.
Permanent Vice Chairman of the Tay Ninh Provincial People's Committee.
On July 31, 2015, the Politburo appointed him as Secretary of the Tay Ninh Provincial Party Committee for the 2010–2015 term, a role he continued in for the 2015–2020 term, during which he also served as Chairman of the Provincial People's Council.
On February 27, 2019, Tran Luu Quang was appointed Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.
In May 2021, the Politburo assigned him as Secretary of the Hai Phong City Party Committee for the 2020–2025 term, a position he held until early 2023.
On January 5, 2023, the National Assembly approved his appointment as Deputy Prime Minister for the 2021–2026 term.
On August 21, 2024, the Politburo assigned Tran Luu Quang as head of the Central Economic Commission.
