According to the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (Vietnam MRCC), the accident occurred at around 6:55 AM on April 8 while the Hosei Crown - a 120-meter-long, 21-meter-wide cargo ship - was en route from Chua Ve Port in Hai Phong to the Philippines.
The fishing vessel TH 92686 TS, carrying 12 crew members, was struck and quickly sank. The initial report stated that all 12 fishermen were missing following the collision.
Upon receiving the distress call, Vietnam MRCC immediately coordinated with the Hai Phong Coastal Radio Station to issue a maritime alert and contacted nearby vessels to assist in search and rescue operations. The Hosei Crown was instructed to release life rafts and organize on-site search efforts.
The search and rescue zone was established, and the rescue vessel SAR 411 was deployed to the site of the incident. A forward command center was also set up at Vietnam MRCC Region I in Hai Phong, with a task force dispatched to oversee search operations on-site.
By 9:10 AM, rescue forces had successfully saved eight fishermen and recovered four bodies. The SAR 411 transported all survivors and victims’ remains back to Vietnam MRCC’s Hai Phong station for handover to local authorities.
The Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center is currently working with relevant agencies to investigate the cause of the accident.
