1. VinFast enters US bourse, becoming global enterprise
At 8 pm August 15 (Vietnam time), more than 2.3 billion of common shares of VinFast Auto, the Vietnamese automobile manufacturer, were officially put into trade on the Nasdaq Global Select Market.
The event marked an important milestone on the path of developing Vietnamese owned global enterprises in general and VinFast in particular.
2. Green credit becoming trend
The banking sector played an important role in the green transition process towards green growth through green financing and credit. It is estimated that total green credit has reached VND520 trillion.
BIDV is now leading the green credit market with green outstanding loans reaching VND73.102 trillion by the end of the third quarter 2023, accounting for 14 percent of the total green credit of the national economy.
3. Vietnam’s largest semiconductor chip factory inaugurated
On October 11, 2023, the Bac Ninh People’s Committee and the US-based Amkor Group held an inauguration ceremony of Amkor Technology Vietnam (ATV) factory in Yen Phong II-C Industrial Zone (IZ).
The project, capitalized at $1.6 billion, is the most modern factory of the group, and is one of the largest semiconductor manufacturing bases in Vietnam.
4. HoaPhat exports first containers
On August 4, 2023, Hoa Phat Container Manufacturing JSC held a ceremony on handing over consignment of 100 20-feet containers to New Way Lines.
These were the first containers manufactured and launched by Hoa Phat after two years of developing the container production project located in Phu My II IZ.
The Hoa Phat container production factory has the capacity of 500,000 TEU per annum, and its major products are 20-40 feet containers. The first phase of the project, with the capacity of 200,000TEU, has been completed and put into operation. With the capacity, Hoa Phat has become the largest container manufacturer in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
5. World’s leading finance group enters Vietnam
In 2023, Vietnamese commercial bank BIDV and Edmond de Rothschild officially organized a ceremony on signing a strategic cooperation contract. The two sides committed to join forces to bring to high-end customers in Vietnam opportunities to approach and use globally-standardized financial services.
It is expected that Vietnam would have 500 ultra-healthy individuals by 2025, and more than 25,800 individuals with assets of over $1 million. This shows great potential for developing Private Banking, the banking service targeting individuals with a high level of assets.
6. Marine fieldwork conducted for electricity export
On August 29, 2023, the joint name of PTSC and Sembcorp was granted a license to conduct marine fieldwork, a preparatory step for the development of an offshore wind power project in Vietnam which will export electricity to Singapore.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment (MONRE) handed over the decision on allowing the joint name to carry out monitoring, exploration, surveying and marine resources assessment activities to PTSC.
The decision is the foundation for PTSC-Sembcorp to conduct the next steps in developing the offshore wind power project for exporting clean power to Singapore.
7. Viettel honored as most valuable telecom brand in Southeast Asia
Viettel continues to be recognized as the most valuable brand in Vietnam in 2023, and at the same time the most valuable telecommunication brand in Southeast Asia as voted by Brand Finance.
Viettel is valued at $9 billion, accounting for 36 percent of the total value of the 10 most valuable brands of Vietnam ($25.1 billion).
8. Historic affair for the banking sector
On March 27, 2023, VPBank and SMBC signed an agreement on issuing 15 percent of VPBank shares privately. This is the largest M&A deal in the history of the banking sector so far.
The investment from SMBC helps VPBank raise its stockholder equity to VND140 trillion, becoming the bank with the second largest stockholder equity in Vietnam.
9. FPT conquers new pinnacle
In 2023, the AI platform of FPT – FPT.AI, surpassing many AI giants, was recognized as top 1 global AI platform, according to Software Review.
FPT has obtained the first contract on providing 25 million chips in 2024 and 2025.
FPT’s successful performance helped FPT share prices increase by 40 percent in 2023 to nearly VND100,000 per share. Its president Truong Gia Binh has once again found his name in the top 10 stock billionaires.
10. PetroVietnam fulfills important business targets
The national oil and gas corporation reached its goal of gaining consolidated profit of VND34.7 trillion four months ahead of schedule (August 31, 2023). It fulfilled the target of paying VND78.3 trillion to the state budget five months ahead of schedule (July 30).
