'Digital transformation' is the most mentioned concept this year

“When the tariff is cut to zero percent, high technology will be the major weapon for foreign products to crush Vietnamese goods,” said Vu Kim Hanh, chair of the Vietnam High-quality Product Enterprises Association.

To prepare for this, Hanh repeatedly stressed the importance of digitalization and digital transformation, saying that high technology is the key to success to both manufacturing and service businesses.

‘Digital transformation’  is the most mentioned concept this year, following ‘startup’ and ‘4.0 industry revolution’ which were hot keywords in the last two years.

“When the tariff is cut to zero percent, high technology will be the major weapon for foreign products to crush Vietnamese goods,”

Vu Kim Hanh, chair of the Vietnam High-quality Product Enterprises Association.

Le Tri Thong, CEO of PNJ, a jewelry company, revealed that the company is now utilizing Data Analytics to analyze and optimize the management of inventory goods and goods on the way for distribution.

Meanwhile, Computer Vision technology, together with AI technology, has turned security cameras used to protect jewelry, into cameras to serve customers, and read ‘customers’ behaviors’ to optimize the service quality.

“Today, the opportunity for businesses lies in the exploitation of new technology to outperform traditional business models and create new resilience to conquer the world market,” Thong commented.

According to Ho Quynh Hung, chair and CEO of Dien Quang JSC, the company launched  four technological solutions last July, including smart home and smart lighting. The other two included a platform to book consultants, design, execution and maintenance services, and a lighting consulting solution via phone app.

In agriculture, after using CO2, supercritical and color separation technology in rice processing, Co May uses automation and AI in seafood processing and has set up a new business.

Co May CEO Pham Minh Thien said he decided to set up Co May Automation to apply 4.0 technology to change the way the enterprise operates.

Hanh confirmed that many members of the association have been going digital.

“It is undeniable that enterprises, in order to sell their products and reach the world market, have to satisfy strict requirements in product quality with support of technology,” Hanh said.

Nguyen Hoang Linh, deputy general director of the Directorate for Standards, Measurement and Quality, said technology and international standards are needed to improve their competitiveness.

However, director of a mechanical engineering company in Hanoi, said SMEs will not be able to go digital without the state’s support.

“Malaysia began launching a training program three years ago. Singapore has Go Digital and Start Digital. Vietnam still doesn’t have any support programs,” he said.
