VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh secured a bronze medal at the Japan Open championships in Tokyo, after losing 0-2 to the world top seed Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia on September 21.

Despite receiving strong support from overseas Vietnamese and students in Japan, Tien Minh failed to enter the finals after two sets of 10-21 and 5-21 in a match against Lee Chong Wei in the men’s single event.

In his competition history, Minh has met Lee Chong Wei 12 times, of which 11 were unsuccessful matches.

Minh’s outstanding performance at the Japan Open tourney, which saw fierce competition from the world’s leading players, was highly congratulated.

This was the second time Minh qualified for the semi-finals of this prestigious event, clinching a bronze medal and pocketing US$2,900 with 6,420 points on the BWF ratings, ranking him in the world’s top 6.

Minh was scheduled to compete at the 2013 National Badminton Championships, which opened in Ho Chi Minh City on September 22.

Malaysia’s World No1 Lee Chong Wei will enter the Japan Open finals and face host player Kenichi Tago (World No5), who claimed an overwhelming victory over Chinese rival Gao Huan (World No 32) in the semi-finals.
