Experts from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting have issued an outlook for Vietnam’s weather from April 10 to 19, 2025.
According to the forecast, a weakening continental high-pressure system (cold air) will shift eastward, establishing a low-pressure trough around latitudes 25–28°N. Later, it will be compressed and move southward, strengthened by a new surge of cold air from the north. Around April 12–13, this continental high is expected to intensify before gradually weakening again.
In the upper atmosphere, the subtropical high is currently weak and withdrawing to the east, but will begin strengthening again around April 11, pushing westward. Around April 12–13, a wind convergence zone at 1,500 meters is likely to form over the northern and central regions.
These atmospheric developments are expected to drive notable changes in weather across Vietnam from April 10 to 19, particularly in the north due to the impact of the enhanced cold front.
In the northwestern region, scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecast for the evenings and nights of April 10–11, with sunny days, and localized hot weather in the far northwest. From April 12–13, more widespread thunderstorms are expected, with moderate to heavy rainfall in some areas. From April 14, rain will be more sporadic.
In the northeastern region, April 10–11 will bring light rain in some areas, with widespread fog and light mist in the early mornings. Coastal zones may see drizzle, mist, and fog on the morning of April 10. Sunny weather is expected by the afternoon of April 11. April 12 will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms, with localized moderate to heavy rain. Light rain may return from the night of April 12.
From Thanh Hoa to Hue, light rain and thunderstorms are expected on April 10–11, with sunny afternoons. The western mountainous areas may experience hot weather. On April 12–13, more widespread thunderstorms are forecast, with some regions expecting heavy downpours. From April 14, rain will become more sporadic.
During April 10–11, parts of northwestern Vietnam and the western mountains from Thanh Hoa to Hue may experience local heatwaves with temperatures exceeding 35°C (95°F).
From Da Nang to Binh Thuan, and across the Central Highlands and southern provinces, light rain and thunderstorms are expected in some areas between April 10–19, with mostly sunny days. Widespread hot weather is likely in southeastern Vietnam. Between April 10–11, maximum temperatures in the southeast are expected to range from 35–36°C (95–96.8°F), with relative humidity dropping to 45–50%. Unseasonal showers may begin around April 10.
The weather agency has warned that thunderstorms could bring lightning, hail, strong winds, and possible tornadoes.
In Hanoi, April 10–11 will bring light rain in some areas and early morning fog. On April 11, sunny skies are expected in the afternoon. Scattered thunderstorms are likely on April 12, with light rain expected from the night of April 12.
