Pu Luong is about 170 km from Hanoi, located in Ba Thuoc and Quan Hoa districts in Thanh Hoa province.
Nestled behind the forests, surrounded by mountains, Pu Luong valley has peaceful and unspoiled scenery, and a cool climate all year round.
In recent years, Pu Luong has become a favorite destination, known as a "miniature Sapa”.
This is home to ethnic Thai and Muong communities. In Thai language, Pu Luong means the highest peak of the village. Pu Luong covers an area of 17,662 hectares, including dense forests, streams, caves and mountains, as well as peaceful villages and terraced fields.
Pu Luong attracts large numbers of tourists in the ripe rice season in late April-June or September-November. The rice season often comes late and lasts longer than it does other destinations in the northern mountainous region of Vietnam.
In mid-November, many terraced fields still have not been harvested in Pu Luong. This is a photo taken in Bang village.
Pu Luong attracts many international tourists for its cool, fresh climate, unspoiled nature, and traditional customs of the local people.
Besides the typical ripe-rice season, visitors also enjoy exploring Kho Muong village and Bat cave. Driving through a steep zigzag road, with a cliff on one side and a deep abyss on the other, visitors will come to Kho Muong village.
Walking through the village and rice fields, visitors will come to Bat cave, also known as Kho Muong cave. The limestone stalactites here were formed about 250 million years ago. This used to be the home of many species of bats.
Coming to Pu Luong in November, visitors can also visit orange and tangerine gardens.
In Pu Luong, there are many traditional dishes of locals, such as Co Lung duck, fish, wild vegetable salad, stone snails and can wine.
Visitors to Pu Luong also love traditional melodies of ethnic Thai. Andy Decker (left) and Reimund Ribarzik (right), from Germany, said: "The tunes are wonderful, they make us feel full of excitement. They have music tools that I have never seen before. Thai girls are beautiful, skillful, and dance gracefully. I regret staying here for only one night because it is too short to fully appreciate the beauty and culture of Pu Luong."
Andy Decker enjoys can wine of Thai people in Pu Luong.
Tourists can buy tours including round-trip bus tickets from Hanoi to Pu Luong and rooms priced from VND 800,000/night/person.
In Pu Luong, there are many luxury resorts such as Central Hills Pu Luong Resort, Pu Luong Retreat, Pu Luong Eco Garden, Pu Luong Hillside Lodge... Homestay accommodation and community stilts are available in Don and Bang villages, priced VND100,000 - VND400,000/person/night.
