In order to concretize the Prime Minister's Directive 19 on continuing the implementation of measures to prevent and control Covid-19 epidemic in the new situation and to encourage and support fishermen to continue offshore fishing activities, the High Command of Coast Guard has coordinated with the Standing Committee of the central provinces of Quang Ngai and Quang Nam to visit and present gifts to local fishermen, who are in difficult circumstances and highly affected by the Covid-19 epidemic. This was the timely assistance for the fishermen to overcome difficulties in life to continue fishing activities and to contribute to protecting the country’s sovereignty over sea and islands.

Particularly, the High Command of Coast Guard Region 2 coordinated closely with the mass mobilization committee of Quang Nam and Quang Ngai provinces to make the list of the fishermen who needed assistance and prepared suitable gifts for them.

In Nui Thanh district, Quang Nam province, the High Command of Coast Guard Region 2 presented 200 bags of gifts (each bag includes VND300,000, 10kg of rice and 10 facial masks) for fishermen in difficult circumstances due to the effects of Covid-19 epidemic in Tam Giang and Tam Quang communes.

On behalf of the local authorities and local fishermen, Mr. Nguyen Quang Phuc, Deputy Head of the Mass Mobilization Division of the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee, said: “Over the past years, the Party Committee and the High Command of Coast Guard Region 2 have effectively implemented the mass mobilization model "The Coast Guard accompanies fishermen", contributing to strengthening the army-people relationship. In Quang Nam province, the High Command of of Coast Guard Region 2 has cooperated with the local authorities to organize many meaningful, practical activities to support fishermen, help them to be confident to reach out to sea.”

Along with well performing the prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic, the Coast Guard forces have also been proactive and creative in carrying out the mass mobilization work, timely supporting and helping fishermen in preventing, combating and overcoming consequences of natural disasters and epidemics.

In a fishing village in the resettlement area of ​​Ha Phong ward, Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province, the coast guard forces and the local authorities provided 1,000 medical masks, 200 antibacterial soap cakes and 200 flyers to propagate the contents relating to COVID-19 pandemic prevention for local fishermen.

Ms. Pham Thi Van, Head of Group 62, Area 8 of Ha Phong Ward said: “I am very touched by the assistance of the coast guard forces and the Ha Long City Party Committee to people in Area 8. The coast guard provided medical supplies and antiseptic soap for people to actively prevent epidemics”.

Major General Doan Bao Quyet, Deputy Political Commissar of the Vietnam Coast Guard, said: “Thoroughly grasping the concept of ‘fighting against epidemics like fighting against the enemy’, over the past time, the Coast Guard forces have seriously complied and implemented measures to prevent and control epidemics under the direction of the Party, the State, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of Defense. Along with well performing the prevention and control of epidemics, especially the Covid-19 epidemic, the Coast Guard forces have been proactive and creative in carrying out mass mobilization activities, promptly helping the people overcome the consequences of drought and saltwater intrusion in the southwestern provinces associated with the implementation of the programs "The Coast Guard accompanies fishermen" and "The Coast Guard with ethnic minorities and religions".

Accordingly, the Coast Guard forces have made flexible use of communication teams to distribute leaflets to more than 10,000 people, contributing to raising awareness about prevention and control of epidemics; donate more than 24,000 medical masks and antibacterial masks, nearly 7,000 bottles of hand sanitizer ... to help people prevent and control Covid-19. The Communist Party Committee and High Command of Coast Guard organized visits and presented gifts to fishermen in the four provinces and cities of Hai Phong, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Binh Thuan (200 bags of gifts for each province) worth VND400 million.

Although the gifts are not valuable in material terms, they were the affection and hearts of the coast guards to fishermen nationwide in general and to 800 families of fishermen in the four provinces where the High Command of Coast Guard implement the program "The Coast Guard accompanies fishermen" in particular.
