VietNamNet Bridge – Song Ma Company in Thanh Hoa Province has fired the deputy director of Construction Enterprise No. 5 and a team leader after the quarry collapse in Vuc Mountain, causing three deaths and one injured worker on June 7.

On June 12, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Deputy General Director of Song Ma Company said that Mr. Nguyen Huu Duoc, Deputy Director of the Construction Enterprise No. 5, which is in charge of the quarry in Vuc Mountain, and Mr. Le Dinh Khang, the head of the rock mining team, were fired. The two officers are defined to violate management rules causing serious consequences.

"The company has actively collaborated with the investigating authorities to clarify the case. The seriously injured worker was transferred to the Vietnam-Germany Hospital in Hanoi for treatment," Hung said, adding that the police checked and seized some documents related to the quarry in Vuc Mountain.

The authorities identified the four victims of the quarry collapse on June 7 are all seasonal workers, who are not insured by their employer. Some of them do not have a labor contract and most of them had never been trained on mining safety.

On the morning of June 7, a group of workers were buried by a huge rock that fell from the Vuc Mountain. Three workers died on the spot and one – Mr. Lam Ba Lang, 51, was seriously injured.

The quarry in Vuc Mountain was licensed in 2009, with a total area of nearly 26,000 m2 and the duration of 36 months. The mining license has been expired for several months, but local people reported that this company still performs mining activities at the quarry.

Thanh Hoa province’s Chairman Trinh Van Chien has instructed relevant agencies to urgently clarify the incident.
