Thanh bags silver medals in Bulgarian Cup

Olympian Phan Thi Ha Thanh grabbed two silver medals at the Gymnastics Federation’s Individual Apparatus World Challenge Cup which closed in Varna, Bulgaria, yesterday.

Thanh finished second in the women’s balanced beam with 14.367 points.

Marine Boyer of France and Ilaria Kaeslin of Switzerland took gold and bronze, respectively.

Earlier, Thanh came in second with a score of 14.400 points in the women’s vault, behind her familiar rival, Guilia Steingruber of Switzerland, who earned 15.134 points. The bronze medal went to Katarzyna Jurkowaska-Kowalska of Poland who scored 14.147 points.

Tung wins stage, maintains at top

Huynh Thanh Tung remained in the top position of the Hat Ngoc Troi Cycling Cup after his win in the seventh stage yesterday.

Tung, of Military Zone 7, finished the 138km stage from Can Tho City to Bac Lieu City with a time of 3hr 24.08min.

He was followed by Nguyen Minh Luan of Vinh Long and Phan Hoang Thai of Domesco Dong Thap.

The stage win strengthened Tùng’s first place position, clocking a total time of 14:16.21. He also retains the green jersey for best sprinter.

Tung’s performance helped Military Zone 7 hold the No 1 position in the team ranking, followed by An Giang and Domesco Dong Thap.

Today, cyclists will tour around Soc Trang City on a 48km route.

Ha Noi T&T wins second table tennis title

Tran Tuan Quynh and Nguyen Anh Tu of Ha Noi T&T successfully defended their men’s doubles title on Saturday at the National Table Tennis Championship in HCM City.

Quynh/Tu defeated Dinh Quang Linh and Duong Van Nam of Military 11-9, 11-9, 9-11, and 14-12 in the final match.

The win gave Ha Noi T&T their second gold medal at the tournament, after they won in the men’s team event.

In the women’s doubles final, Mai Hoang My Trang and Thanh Thu of Petrosetco HCM City won 11-9, 11-4, 11-6 over Viet Linh and Tuong Giang of the Police.

Trang later paired with Dình Duy to triumph in the mixed doubles event, after defeating Tuan Anh and Thu Ha from Hai Duong 11-5, 13-11, 9-11, 13-11.

Trang has earned three gold medals.

The athletes will now continue with the singles’ events.
