Update news technical barriers
Vietnam’s farm exports have been given warnings by import countries. Farmers and exporters have been told that their products may face refusal if they do not improve the quality of produce.
Eleven Vietnamese fruits have been allowed to be exported to China through official channels. However, Chinese consumption decreased during the pandemic, and, as a result, Vietnam’s exports to the market fell by $400 million in H1.
Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh informed the press on the outcomes of two special virtual meetings of ASEAN on responding to the COVID-19 pandemic that Vietnam hosted on June 4, as Chair of the ASEAN in 2020.
Since June, Vietnam’s farm and seafood produce have had through official channels to enter China and meet stricter requirements. Despite this, China still remains Vietnam’s major export market.
Vietnam misses many opportunities to export farm produce because of food safety requirements set by import countries.
