The domestic passenger Terminal 3 (T3) at Tan Son Nhat International Airport will officially begin operations after the peak holiday period of April 30 – May 1, 2025, following its inauguration on Vietnam’s Reunification Day.
On March 13, Tan Son Nhat International Airport Authority confirmed the launch timeline for Terminal 3, in line with the Prime Minister’s directive. The airport has already begun system checks, passenger service training, and operational preparations to ensure a smooth opening.
Initially, Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air will be the first airlines to operate from Terminal 3, while other domestic carriers - Vasco, Bamboo Airways, Vietravel Airlines, and Pacific Airlines - will continue using Terminal 1.
To ensure readiness, the airport will conduct a full-scale operational trial before the official launch on April 30, ensuring that passenger services and security protocols function seamlessly.
A $432 million investment to transform Tan Son Nhat Airport
Terminal 3 is a major infrastructure upgrade for Tan Son Nhat International Airport, with a total investment of 10.99 trillion VND (approximately $432 million). The project is financed by Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) using its own capital and commercial loans.
Once operational, Terminal 3 will have a capacity of over 20 million passengers per year, serving up to 7,000 passengers per peak hour. The facility is designed to handle all Code C and Code E aircraft, supporting a wide range of domestic flight operations.
Tan Son Nhat International Airport, Vietnam’s busiest air hub, has long faced issues with overcrowding and traffic congestion. The addition of Terminal 3 is expected to significantly improve passenger flow and reduce strain on existing infrastructure.
With its state-of-the-art facilities, Terminal 3 will play a key role in modernizing Vietnam’s aviation sector, enhancing travel efficiency for millions of domestic passengers each year.
