VietNamNet Bridge – Those who have watched the award-winning movie Pao’s Story, directed by Do Quang Hai, may dream of a journey to Sung La, a small village in the northern province of Ha Giang.

Sung La Valley is as beautiful as a fairy tale although I came there at the end of the yellow cabbage flowering season when the white plum flowers are not yet in blossom. On top of the mountain pass, visitors can take a breathtaking view.

The rooftops are scattered against the cliffs stretching over the plateau. Among the green cornfields, women in colorful brocade skirts go up and down the small winding roads which look like silk ribbons around the mountain sides.

It is understandable why the splendid natural landscape in this thousand-year-old valley was chosen for artistic frames of photographers and film directors. The area can inspire artists thanks to its enchanting beauty and a gentle pace of life.

Just like the house which was chosen for the movie Pao’s Story, other houses in the village maintain their ancient beauty with the yin-yang roof tiles covered with moss and plants.

The beautiful village is home to Lo Lo, H’Mong and Han peoples, creating a cultural diversity that one would love to explore.

Most interestingly, everything in the village is made by the skillful hands of native people. From the walls, tiles, furniture, stone fence to costumes, household appliances and working tools are hand-made.

Especially, local artists preserve a lot of folk songs, folk dances and typical musical instruments which are of precious intangible value.

Time seems to have made no impact on a land where life goes on with the melodious sound of panpipes and weaving loom.
